Spencer B. Beebe
President
Spencer Beebe is a fourth generation Portlander who spent fourteen years with the Nature Conservancy before helping found Conservation International in 1987. In 1991, he founded Ecotrust to focus his work on the rain forests of home. He serves on the boards of ShoreBank Corporation, Tamastlikt Cultural Institute and Walsh Construction Company. Spencer is a member of the Ecotrust and Ecotrust Canada Board of Directors.
Edward Backus
Vice President, Fisheries Program
Ed Backus holds an MFS from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. He worked for eight years at The Nature Conservancy International and at Conservation International before moving to Oregon in 1993. He was the president and co-founder of Interrain Pacific, a non-profit organization leading the development of public access to geographic information systems (GIS), which has since been integrated into the work of Ecotrust Knowledge Systems. Ed is chair of the board of the Prince William Sound Science Center in Cordova, Alaska.
Craig Jacobson
Vice President, Native Programs
Craig Jacobson earned his JD in 1995 from The Northwestern School of Law at Lewis & Clark College, and a BA in International Studies from the Robert D. Clark Honors College at the University of Oregon. Craig's history with Ecotrust began almost ten years ago, when he served as a staff intern while finishing his law degree. Prior to returning to Ecotrust, Craig worked for the Shoalwater Tribe as the Natural Resource Policy Coordinator, Tribal Policy Analyst and Self Governance Coordinator and as a staff attorney for the Portland office of Hobbs, Straus, Dean and Walker LLP.
Deborah Kane
Vice President, Food & Farms
Prior to joining Ecotrust, Deborah Kane ran an independent consulting business specializing in sustainable food and farming and served as executive director of Food Alliance, one of the nation's leading certification organizations for environmentally friendly and socially responsible agriculture practices. In 2003 Deborah was named one of "50 Great Leaders for Oregon" by Oregon Business Magazine and appointed by Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski to the Oregon Sustainability Board, where she served one term. Most recently, she has been awarded a national Food & Society Policy Fellowship for 2007–08.
Adam Lane
Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer
Adam Lane earned his MBA from The Stanford Graduate School of Business and a BA in mathematics and economics from Pomona College. Prior to Ecotrust, Adam served as a senior manager of finance integration for the Intel Corporation, working with Intel-acquired companies to insure integration of business systems, financial processes and staffing. He serves on the boards of Celilo Group Media and the Opal Creek Ancient Forest Center.
Astrid Scholz
Vice President, Knowledge Systems
Dr. Astrid Scholz, an ecological economist by training, received her Ph.D. in Energy and Resources from the University of California at Berkeley. Astrid is an affiliate faculty member of Oregon State University's College of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences program, and is co-editor of Place Matters, a book on integrated marine geographic information systems that OSU Press published in 2005. She serves on the boards of the Pacific Marine Conservation Council and the Living Oceans Society, and is a member of the Science and Technical Team of the Oil Spill Recovery Institute.
Bettina von Hagen
Vice President, Natural Capital Fund and Forestry Program
Bettina von Hagen joined Ecotrust in 1993 to develop and manage Ecotrust's $26 million Natural Capital Fund. In 2004 Bettina helped launch Ecotrust Forests LLC, a private equity forestland investment fund. In addition, Bettina manages Ecotrust's Forestry program and directs its ecosystem services initiatives. Bettina was previously a vice president and commercial lender at First Interstate Bank and Continental Bank. She holds an MBA from the University of Chicago. Bettina serves on the boards of the Climate Trust, Forest Trends, the U.S. Green Building Council, the FSC Global Fund, Ecotrust Forest Management and the Advisory Council of Kinship Conservation Fellows.
