Marine Life Protection Act (MLPA) Initiative

Fisheries Uses and Values Project

Quality Assurance/Quality Control

As information is being collected by field staff for both the recreational and commercial fleets, Ecotrust personnel will begin to edit and create "clean" datasets. These datasets will then be incorporated into a secure web-based application that will allow each participant to log-in and verify that their shapes and information are correct before they are combined with other participants' shapes in the final product(s). Once interviews have been completed, each participant will then be given access to the final products of the fisheries in which they participate. At each step of verification they will be given the opportunity to comment and or change any erroneous data. Once we have provided adequate opportunity for the participants to review their information and verify its accuracy, final data products will be submitted to the Initiative to be used in the stakeholder MPA design and evaluation process.

  1. Modify secure web-based application that was developed for the NCCSR to facilitate the verification of recreational data as well as commercial data. This will allow each participant to log-in and verify that their shapes and information is accurate, along with the final characterization of the fishing grounds to which he/she contributed.
    1. Those without access to the internet will be sent hard copies of their information to verify and provide comment (must provide consent).
  2. Follow-up meetings with participants and fishing community in each of the ports to verify results.
