Carbon offsets a wild card as environmental markets converge

"Cap and trade is enormously significant," said Bettina von Hagen, CEO of Ecotrust Forest Management Inc., a Portland, Ore.-based company that manages 12,000 acres in the Pacific Northwest for 34 investors. "Everyone is trying to sort out how carbon offsets could provide the start-up capital for projects and then move on to monetizing other ecosystem services."
