A key economic study set to be released tomorrow at a Marine Life Protection Act meeting in Dana Point reiterates the huge gap between fishing and environmental groups over marine protected areas, as well as the wide range of potential economic impacts.
Ecotrust, a private organization that did the study, will present its economic impact report at the Blue Ribbon Task Force meeting in Dana Point. Ecotrust, hired by the state and the MLPA Initiative, produced the report by analyzing the nine first-round proposals for marine protected areas with no-fishing zones drawn by the South Coast Region stakeholder group and three by external groups.
The San Diego Union-Tribune obtained the Ecotrust report yesterday.
