Climate change: Answering the economic challenge

The melting ice sheets, record global temperatures and overwhelming scientific consensus have forced most climate-change deniers to adopt a new position: that, yes, global warming may be real, but, no, anything other than a token response is simply too expensive.

That isn't true, either. A new website, RealClimateEconomics.org, created by a network of economists and other experts, makes a powerful case that "there is rigorous economic support for immediate, large-scale policy responses to the climate crisis."

The site, which is headed by Kristen Sheeran of Ecotrust, is worth a visit at a time when Congress is preparing to debate the Waxman-Markey climate clean energy bill, the nation's first broad and serious effort at responding to global warming.
