Expect delays next week on some Umpqua Forest roads
TILLER — A fish-habitat project will stall traffic off and on next week on several forest roads in the Tiller Ranger District of the Umpqua National Forest in southwestern Oregon.
Beginning Monday and running through Friday, expect delays of up to 10 minutes if you are traveling on the Jackson Creek Road (Rd. 29), the 68 Road, Falcon Road (Road 29-300), the Beaver Creek Road (Road 32), and between Dumont and Boulder Creek drainage on South Umpqua Road (Rd 28). Big Stump Rock Pit will also be closed to public access to serve as a helicopter landing pad.
Officials said the delays are because of a project to restore salmon and steelhead habitat in upper Jackson Creek and the Upper Boulder Creek drainage. The contractor, Columbia Helicopters, will begin work on Monday on the Jackson Creek portion of the project, and then will move to the Dumont and Boulder Creek drainage.
Money for the stream-improvement project comes from the Partnership for Umpqua Rivers, Ecotrust and the Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board.
