Deep water red rockfish

Blast frozen, boneless and skinless deep water red rockfish fillets, vacuum packed. These rockfish varieties are caught along with our blackcod down deep where the water is cold and pure. The meat is firm, sweet, and flakes nicely.

Here’s a quick look at the exciting connections happening this week on FoodHub. Log in to make yours.

Eat Oregon First
Food distributor finds prime partners

Eat Oregon First is a food distributor dedicated to Oregon growers and food artisans. Scot Laney, the man behind the company, also raises a hundred head of red beef cattle each year and manages other farm and fishery operations. The company’s purpose is to act as distributor for high quality local producers to consolidate orders for Oregon restaurants and specialty markets. Much as FoodHub makes it possible for local buyers and sellers to find one another, Eat Oregon First puts some of those connections into trucks and onto pavement. “We are the wheels,” Scot says.

“We grow a lot of our own stuff, but we never seem to have quite enough. FoodHub has helped us find people who share our vision of how food should be raised. We have used the site to augment our supply,” Scot explains.

For example, in order to complete a larger sale, Eat Oregon First needed a few extra Red Wattle hogs, a heritage breed. Using the FoodHub Search function, Scot found Jim and Wendy Parker of Heritage Farms Northwest, from whom Scot purchased two hanging whole Wattles.

In another instance, Scot found wonderful synchronicity on the site—he needed garlic scapes and Phil Greif at pd Farms had just posted to the FoodHub Marketplace announcing his abundance. “I would never have known about him,” Scot reflects. Next, pd farms will sell new red potatoes to Eat Oregon First.

FoodHub is a complement to his distribution business, and the connections will keep coming!
