MARCH 21: LOCAL FOOD HEROES TO BE CELEBRATED OVER BRATS AND BREWS

Ecotrust honors outstanding farms, restaurants, nonprofits, and businesses at the annual Local Hero Award Ceremony

February 27, 2013, Portland, Ore. – Join Ecotrust and Edible Portland as we transform the Ecotrust building into a raucous beer hall. Five stations will feature the unbelievable brat-kraut-brew trifecta, including Olympic Provisions dishing up snappy Bratwurst alongside Picklopolis’ Real Live Kraut and Heater Allen’s dark red, malty Dunkel.

In the midst of this delicious feast, we will announce this year’s six Local Hero Award winners, voted for by over 2,000 community members. Please come cheer on our food heroes, enjoy a great meal, and support Ecotrust’s work to build a robust regional food system. All proceeds benefit Ecotrust food and farming initiatives.

What are the Local Hero Awards?
Since 2009, Edible Portland has recognized local food heroes who exemplify high standards in their social and environmental practices, food sourcing, regional economic impact, and commitment to promoting a sustainable food system in the following categories: Farm/Ranch, Restaurant, Food Artisan, Beverage Artisan, Nonprofit, and Retailer. After a call for nominations in January, we select the top four nominees, and the public votes for the winners. (Voting closed on March 1. Learn about the nominees at http://edibleportland.com/2013/02/vote-on-the-2013-local-hero-nominees/.)

Kid’s Food Hero Drawing Contest on Display!
Edible Portland asked kids ages 5 to 12 to draw their food heroes, and their eat-your-heart-out entries will be on display during the event. All attendees will have the chance to peruse and vote for their favorite, which will win one of the kids a slot in a Zenger Farm Summer Camp!
